The National Policy for Senior Emiratis aims to ensure that seniors remain active and have access to government services. The policy focuses on seven main components: healthcare, community involvement and active life, effective civic participation, infrastructure and transportation, financial stability, safety and security, and quality of future life.
On 21 October 2018, the UAE Government approved a national policy for the elderly. The policy, titled The National Policy for Senior Emiratis is based on an integrated care system to ensure that seniors remain active and have access to government services for them. The UAE Government also instructed to replace the term 'elderly Emiratis' with 'Senior Emiratis'.
According to the national policy, senior Emiratis will be provided with special health insurance. New centres will be set up to provide them with modern skills and new houses will be developed to meet their needs.
The policy also includes discount and protection programmes to protect them from violence and abuse.
