The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently sought to go beyond traditional models of government service delivery by adopting innovative approaches grounded in a deep understanding of future requirements and the evolving needs and expectations of the public. In line with this ambitious vision, the "Smart Mission" initiative was launched as a strategic step to redefine the customer experience at the UAE's diplomatic missions abroad, in support of the directives of the UAE's wise leadership to advance digital transformation, contribute to the UAE Centennial 2071 vision, and align with the Principles of the 50 and the UAE Government Services Strategy 2021-2025

The Smart Mission provides a comprehensive suite of consular services, including the issuance of return documents, attestation of personal and commercial documents, and issuance of certificates and letters, in addition to immediate response to emergency situations UAE nationals may face abroad. These services are designed to meet the needs of UAE nationals, residents, and visitors alike, enabling access to proactive and diverse service offerings. The initiative leverages advanced automation and artificial intelligence technologies, including facial recognition and direct interaction without the need for human intervention, supported by technologies such as 3D imaging and hologram systems, while also offering the option to speak to a virtual consular officer when needed

In 2024, the first Smart Mission was inaugurated in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, making it the world's first mission to operate fully with artificial-intelligence-powered solutions and provide continuous. The Smart Mission was designed to reflect the harmony between innovation and sustainability, utilizing 3D-printed structures and incorporating energy-efficient systems and Internet-of-Things technologies, establishing it as an advanced model for smart and sustainable infrastructure that reflects the UAE's vision for sustainable digital transformation

The excellence of this project has been widely recognized through multiple prestigious awards. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the UAE Artificial Intelligence Award in the category of "Distinguished Services Supported by Advanced Technologies," in recognition of its adoption of intelligent solutions that enhanced service efficiency and responsiveness to customer needs. The Ministry also won the "Innovative Solutions" category under the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, after redesigning workflows to reduce procedures by more than 80% and replacing paper-based forms and traditional protocols with flexible, scalable digital solutions across UAE missions worldwide. Collectively, these awards underscore the success of the Smart Mission in transforming the customer journey through an intelligent model aligned with global trends in next-generation government services

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to take confident steps toward reinforcing an intelligent operational system that reflects its deep commitment to service excellence. The "Smart Mission" is part of a continuous journey rooted in efficiency, innovation, and constant improvement, redefining traditional notions of government service delivery. With every milestone achieved, ambition grows and progress accelerates toward more intelligent, flexible, and proactive solutions. Digital transformation in the UAE is a living reality that enables new experiences, transcends boundaries, and anticipates future needs, driven by a vision that believes in the impossible and a journey that knows no finish line
