As the UAE's digital transformation continues to accelerate, the Ministry of Sports is committed to encouraging a culture of data monitoring and protection. This focus has become the foundation for development, data-driven decision-making and future foresight.

In a remarkable move, the Ministry has issued and adopted the 'Sports Data Governance Policy,' following a decision by His Excellency Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports. It marks the first comprehensive regulatory and executive framework for data management within the nation's sports industry.

The policy is designed to transform sports data into a strategic national asset that elevates the institutional performance of the sector, improves service quality and strengthens the principles of transparency and accountability. It further seeks to establish a unified digital sports ecosystem based on accurate and integrated data. The system will allow performance assessment and guide sports-related decisions and policies using accurate scientific and knowledge-based information.

The policy is based on various institutional principles that control data management at the Ministry of Sports and affiliated sports entities. Major principles include:

  • All sports sector data, in every form, is treated as a national asset that must be managed and protected as per the highest standards of quality and transparency.
  • Ensuring the quality, accuracy and consistency of data so it can act as an efficient tool for policy development and initiative formulation.
  • Enabling smooth data exchange between the Ministry of Sports and relevant government and sports entities to coordinate efforts and ensure institutional coherence in data accuracy and quality.
  • Advancing open data practices to support transparency and encourage innovation, offering researchers opportunities to leverage public sports data.
  • Safeguarding privacy and confidentiality while meeting national regulations regarding personal data protection and information security.

The success of this policy relies on the collective efforts of all sports entities in the UAE, including federations, clubs, councils, and local departments. Their active collaboration is essential to applying data governance standards, updating their databases, and ensuring data accuracy. Data is a shared national resource, not the asset of a single entity, and it plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Emirati sports and improving its global competitiveness.

Through this policy, the Ministry of Sports is set to advance into a new phase of smart transformation in sports knowledge management. In this new stage, data will form the basis of every decision, the primary driver of every development, and the most reliable source of every achievement.
