As we mark Emirati Women's Day, we highlight the prominent standing of Emirati women in society, recognizing their significant contributions to the UAE's journey of progress and development since the establishment of the Union. From the outset, our wise leadership has firmly believed that women are a cornerstone of societal advancement and that educating and empowering them is an investment in our nation's future and sustained achievements. 

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan laid the foundation for this vision when he famously stressed that "women make up half of society." Guided by this belief in the role of women, the UAE has, since its founding, strived to foster a supportive environment that enables women to participate actively across different spheres of life and serve as key partners in national development.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the UAE, has played a central role in supporting Emirati women and expanding their participation in education, employment, and society at large by sponsoring initiatives and institutions committed to empowering women and unlocking their potential. Her efforts have paved the way for the many achievements of Emirati women, who have become an example for others to follow across the region and beyond.

In contrast to some countries, the advancement of Emirati women in education and the workforce was not driven by social movements or public pressure. Instead, it was deeply rooted in the UAE leadership's confidence in women and society's belief in their role. From the early days of the Union, Emirati women have been active across a wide range of fields, standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts to build and serve the nation, contributing to the historic milestones the UAE celebrates today.

Women in the UAE enjoy a level playing field in education and the workforce. Our country provides them with the support and opportunities to pursue their ambitions and contribute meaningfully to the economy. These policies have resulted in a strong presence of women across many sectors, from education and healthcare to security and senior government leadership. 

The UAE's support for women goes beyond the mere creation of opportunities; it recognizes the diverse social roles women fulfill as daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers. The country provides policies and incentives to enable women to balance family responsibilities with career aspirations. This balanced approach underscores the UAE's vision of empowering women while honoring their role within the family and society, setting a forward-looking model rarely seen even in some advanced nations.

Historically, the UAE has been home to many iconic female figures who have helped shape its cultural and social landscape. Figures such as the literary pioneer Shaikha Al Nakhi, along with prominent thinkers, including Dr. Mouza Ghubash and Dr. Rafia Ghubash, have left an indelible mark on the country's social and cultural development.

Today, Emirati women continue to stand at the forefront of leadership and decision-making, holding a wide range of ministerial and executive roles. A prime example is Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation. As a distinguished role model for Emirati women in diplomacy and leadership, she is among the many female leaders currently driving the UAE's comprehensive development.

No account of the UAE's successes would be complete without honoring the instrumental role of Emirati mothers in nurturing generations and instilling core values. Mothers and sisters alike play an essential role in shaping a generation of capable national leaders in whom we take great pride today. This underscores the fact that the UAE's achievements are the result of a cohesive society where roles are integrated across its members. This was a vision championed by the late Sheikh Zayed, who said that "women are a pillar of UAE society because they are daughters, sisters, and mothers who nurture future generations."

Emirati Women's Day is not just a day of celebration; it is an occasion to reflect on a legacy of giving and achievement, and to reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering Emirati women to continue to serve as key partners in achieving the UAE's aspirations for a more prosperous and sustainable future.
