Amid the rapid transformation of the transportation sector, autonomous mobility technologies are emerging as a future-oriented solution that brings together artificial intelligence, operational efficiency, and sustainability. In this context, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is preparing to launch the pilot phase of an autonomous mobility project on its campus, in coordination with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport - Abu Dhabi, and in partnership with K2.

The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen innovation and smart transformation while developing future mobility solutions that enhance quality of life within the university environment. It also reflects a commitment to leveraging autonomous technologies to provide more efficient, safe, and sustainable transportation options.

The Integrated Transport Centre will oversee the implementation of the pilot phase and monitor compliance with regulatory frameworks, operational standards, and safety requirements. This oversight will support the testing of the proposed solutions in a safe, real-world environment and the assessment of their readiness for practical deployment in accordance with established smart mobility practices.

The project goes beyond providing an innovative mode of transportation on campus. It will serve as a practical platform for collecting and analyzing operational and technical data and conducting live trials to help advance autonomous mobility solutions designed for collective passenger transportation. The findings from these trials could contribute to strengthening the regulatory and operational readiness of the sector and support the development of relevant policies and standards.

The initiative also highlights the role of universities in connecting academic research with practical applications by providing testing environments where researchers and specialists can study emerging technologies and evaluate their performance under real-world conditions.
