National Qualifications Authority endorses national vocational qualifications that meet development criteria and requirements. A national vocational qualification is defined as a document that describes the level of learning outcomes an individual obtains needed to perform specific functions and activities. NQA classifies qualifications into two types: principal and awards. Principal qualification includes a set of knowledge, skills and aspects of competence that qualify the learner to do a job.
NQA’s approval of national vocational qualifications requires that the development process has been completed by NQA approved sector advisory councils or committees, including experts and practitioners. Besides, the development has been carried out based on studies showing the actual need to develop the qualifications, and on studies and bench marking of international best practices.
NQA approved training providers can only offer the national qualifications in the event that they have proven ability and readiness. Approval requires that these providers have the suitable training facilities, and NQA approved assessors and an internal verifier.
Learners who have achieved requirements of the learning outcomes of the qualification obtain vocational certificates recognized at the national level enabling them to apply for the targeted jobs in the labor market. This would enhance the availability of workforce equipped with high quality qualifications supporting labor market variables.
