Overview

  • The UAE started some of its eServices, such as eDirham, in as early as 2001.
  • In June 2004, Ministry of Finance initiated a plan to set the infrastructure for eGovernment.
  • In the year 2010, the Prime Minister's Office developed a strategy for the improvement of government services.
  • After 2011, the role of implementing the eGovernment programme in the UAE was handed over to the Information and eGovernment Sector in Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA).  

The UAE mGovernment

On 22 May 2013, H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid announced the launch of mGovernment Initiative to make government services accessible round-the-clock through mobile phones, smart devices and electronic kiosks.

mGovernment does not replace the eGovernment but it complements and enhances the existing systems and services. TDRA continues to work on the implementation of the mGovernment Initiative.

The Information & eGovernment Sector at TDRA is responsible for supporting infrastructure and strategies that drive the eTransformation process of UAE government entities through the implementation of the mGovernment’s plans, in line with the UAE mGovernment Strategy. The sector seeks to ensure attaining the relevant national indexes and provide the appropriate environment and conditions for achieving the 1st rank globally in online services.

  • improves the quality of life and helps people achieve happiness.

U.ae

‘U.ae’ (previously Government.ae) is the official portal of the UAE Government. H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched in 2011.


The aim of the portal is to act as a single window that provides easy access to all government services. The portal gathers information about federal and local government entities and their services for individuals, visitors, businesses and government.

It engages several platforms like forums, blogs, chat, surveys and polls to facilitate effective communication between the government and the public.
