The UAE continues to take a forward-looking approach to strengthening the readiness of its healthcare system, with the One Health approach gaining increasing importance in addressing today's challenges. 

At its core, this approach recognises that human health is closely connected to animal health and the environment, making collaboration across health, veterinary, environmental and agricultural sectors essential for more effective prevention and faster responses to emerging risks.

This approach holds particular relevance in the UAE, given its strategic location, high levels of trade and tourism activity, and the diversity of its economic and food systems. 

These factors make early detection systems and institutional collaboration a strategic priority. Zoonotic diseases account for nearly 60% of known infectious diseases worldwide, while around 75% of emerging infectious diseases originate from animals, highlighting the importance of integrated preventive action.

In this context, the UAE continues to play an active role in relevant international platforms. During the One Health Summit, it reaffirmed its commitment to promoting this approach and strengthening global cooperation to address cross-border health risks, including antimicrobial resistance and future pandemics. This engagement reflects the country's growing role as a key partner in shaping sustainable health solutions.

The One Health approach also contributes to improving food safety, protecting biodiversity, and promoting the responsible use of veterinary and human medicines, while supporting the development of shared data systems across relevant entities. These efforts align with the "We the UAE 2031" vision, which aims to enhance quality of life, advance sustainability, and strengthen the competitiveness of the healthcare sector.

The UAE's adoption of this approach highlights a clear understanding that modern prevention begins with a holistic view that connects human health to its wider environment, transforming cross-sector coordination into a national strength that supports health security, biosecurity and sustainable development.
